Graduation day is filled with hope for a bright future.
For the women in Tanzania that were born with albinism, this day is a huge milestone. They have lived with the danger of mutilation and death daily, all due to the superstitions and beliefs perpetrated by witchcraft still prevalent in this country. They have been given the opportunity to live with some measure of security in a home and cared for by Deaconess where they received sewing lessons.
The Lutheran Church – Southeast of Lake Victoria Diocese and partners in other countries have made this possible. The goal is for each woman to have a machine and bundle of fabric to start their own business. They understand the risks of re entering into a society still filled with discrimination and danger.
Through this ministry, they have been given the opportunity to live with some measure of security in a home and cared for by Deaconesses. While there, they have been given sewing lessons. Sewing is a trade used often for self-support in this country. The Lutheran Church – Southeast of Lake Victoria Diocese, along with the generous support of partners from other countries, have made this possible. The goal is for each woman to receive a machine and bundle of fabric to start their own business.
They understand the risks of re entering into a society still filled with discrimination and danger. We applaud their strength and courage. For information about continuing to support this ministry, please email Bob Allen.
