I have literally traveled the world, but this is my first mission trip. There were two overriding experiences on this trip.
The first was the outpouring of Christian, brotherly love upon me by Emmanuel [Bishop Makala], his fellow clergy and the laymen of his diocese which warmed my heart. The second was the realization that Our Savior was actually using me as a conduit through whom His Word and Sacrament of Baptism was redeeming souls which made me physically tremble when applying the water.
The second was remembering a comment at a recent elders meeting. Our pastor was discussing the distraction of people texting during his sermon. I related one of our preaching experiences under a tree. It was hot; there were bugs; two donkeys brayed not twelve yards away; a rooster crowed almost within arm’s reach; a duck and five ducklings did their thing in the midst of the small gathering who continued to peel potatoes as we spoke and where one was nursing her child.
But the Word went forth…
